Balance is Beautiful: Lessons from Burnout

Even as I sit down to write and record this podcast, I think of the week up until now.

Full of a flurry of activity, of ups and downs. Finding balance has definitely looked different.

As leaders, it’s completely normal, and often expected, that we ride a constant roller coaster—moving from one project to the next, identifying accomplishments, delivering results on demand.

And while I can feel myself being pulled into these stressors, I also feel like I can move through things with more grace than I might have before—by having a powerful vision of what I really want.

Listen in to the podcast to hear more on Balance is Beautiful:

Lessons from Burnout.

  • Have a powerful vision of what you want for your life. What do you want to feel and experience over the next three, five, or ten years? What do you most want?

  • Incorporate routines and rituals that support you and ground you to live out this vision, and honor them regularly.

  • Let go of perfection so that you can stay committed. For example, maybe you don’t have 30 minutes to work out today, but you can do 10. Take the 10 and let it be enough until the next time. The important thing is to stay committed to the routine that grounds you and supports your well being.

  • Adjust a ritual or a routine when you need to so it works with your current schedule. Work and life demands are ever changing. Often we need to reassess how our life is going so we can incorporate the routine into what’s working instead of pushing against things to make things happen and defeating the purpose of it in the first place.
