5 Big Questions for Creating More Possibility in your life
I was thinking today, as we begin to wrap up summer, what are the things I might want to embody as I head into the next season. The last few weeks have given me an opportunity to explore what matters most, in terms of understanding how our hearts may need to expand because we are sharing experiences with people that force us to grow, to grieve, to be with people, to face different challenges in our worlds.
Some of us are challenged with the tasks and frustrations we are managing from daily demands that feel they might never end, even if we are moving toward good things, there are things that call us to keep going.
Some of us are walking through situations with loved ones, caring for them and walking beside them during a difficult time.
You may be caring for yourself in a difficult time, a job change, a health challenge, something that is out of your control.
While I’ve experienced some of these things myself with my neighbors and friends, we’ve probably also experienced the joy of getting back together again—celebrating together, spending time with friends and family, and being able to give them a big hug!
All of these things help me to think about balance from this perspective: that many things are co-existing at the same time.
How might we embrace that more? How might we invite this idea into our lives to help us create more balance for us, for our friends, for our family—that many things are co-existing at the same time.
And how might we lead ourselves and help others to have balance based on that?
5 big questions to ask when you want to embrace your humanity, feel alive, and move forward, even when it feels like things are complex, changing, and challenging.
1) Where do I want to grow or change? This is about finding the opportunity you want to explore, and considering things that feels like it has energy around it for you, something that you’re excited or hopeful about—that you want to move forward, And also that feels like it resonates with your life and community—the reason I state this is that when we feel like it resonates in your life (meaning it is in line with your values, your current life season, and you have relationships in your community that would support and to help you grow/change).
2) What gives life? This is to explore and uncover what gives life—what brings out the best in you and those around you, what things have worked in the past that have helped you---exploring stories and questions that invite an experience, engage the senses, and not only rely on data, but invites learning and meaning making.
3) Can I visualize the possibilities? So, if I want something to change, and I have explored times that invite me to engage in a positive and meaningful way, how can I use this information to visualize the possibilities? By using the stories of bests, I can look at the future in a grounded and practical reality, but give myself the chance to stretch and move me more toward where I want to go.
4) Am I willing to build on the best of what I discovered and think of possible ways to design my future? So, if I take where I want to grow or what I want to change, then I start exploring times in my life where I might have experienced this in a positive way, what can I take from that discovery and build on it so I might design a doable and meaningful plan for change.
5) Am I focused on taking manageable action steps to move forward to release stuckness? This is where we look at everything we have explored, the ways we want to change, and once we have a clear vision of what we want, we can start breaking it into small actions we can take right now to move toward positive outcomes.
Whatever it is that you want to do, know that it’s possible for you. And there is grace for the moment. I love this quote from Oprah Winfrey that helps us to remember that . . .
