Rhythms in Your Career and Life

October is my favorite month of the year. It hosts my favorite color palette, the delightful mix of cool and warm weather, of cozy nights inside and fresh air walks outside.

Fall is my favorite season in Ohio.

And for me, it's the perfect time to set new intentions.

October is my New Year.

I've learned that I move best in rhythm with the seasons and as I looked back on the cadence of my own goal setting, I noticed that I feel most inspired to set new intentions every October and every May.

January and February tend to be very harsh, cold months here in Ohio. So, in order to feel like I get the most out of this changing season, and to help myself avoid falling into a winter depression, or slipping into winter apathy, I like to set my intentions earlier, in October.

Then, I consider January a perfect time to embrace winter and a slower pace of things, no longer compelled to rush into something new. It gives me the space I need to counterbalance the focus I must have when starting a new year in corporate life and a new semester with the kids in school.

It was a such a great a-ha moment for me to realize I needed to change how I do my personal goal setting. To change my new year.

What works for you?

What do you notice about your own rhythms and seasons?

When do you feel more energy around setting intentions for your next three, six, or twelve months? Or maybe you move at longer intervals, maybe every two or three years.

Noticing your own rhythms is part of the intentional change cycle. The key is to leverage what works for you instead of feeling the should of working with a defined set of timelines that others make for you.

It's so worth it to look back and understand your own patterns of life-changing shifts. Staying in tune to these changes helps us to stay more in control of our present and our future.

Download the Career & Life Rhythms Guide by clicking below to help you look back on your own patterns; to give you a window into a more aligned way to plan intentions and goals.

And for fun, I'm sharing a Rhythms and Seasons Playlist for you to listen as you complete this exercise. Carve out space and time that feels life-giving to you. Light a candle, steal some time away at a local cafe, take your lunch hour--whatever works for you in your schedule.

Grab a hot apple cider or soothing cup of tea, set the playlist, and give yourself permission to take the time you need to learn about your own cadence of change.

You deserve to give yourself this investment of time. Taking one to two hours to complete this exercise will teach you so much about yourself. You'll learn more about designing goals with timelines that work for you, meant to increase your ability to follow through on those goals.

Something beautiful is awaiting you on the other side of this season. This year is still brimming with promise and potential.

Complete the Career & Life Rhythms Guide, jot some notes and important observations around your own change patterns, and you'll learn where you are right now in your own change cycle.
