4 Core Areas to Lead Wholeheartedly and Live Intentionally: Self

This series is to highlight the 4 core areas to Lead Wholeheartedly and Live Intentionally. These core areas are the foundation for all the coaching and consulting work I support, for individuals, teams, and organizations.

When focusing on these 4 core areas, we will draw on ideas and principles from Intentional Change Theory and Appreciative Inquiry.

When taking on your own personal change, the very first focus is on Self. By integrating ideas from both Appreciative Inquiry and Intentional Change Theory, the difference-making first step is to discover (or re-discover) the Ideal Self. This is who you want to be, what you want to do, a power image of your desired future. Your dreams and highest hopes.

These are the desires you may have held for a long time, and they were hidden away under the Ought Self. Or it may be that a new dream formed from one of life’s wake up calls—a major personal crisis, a work crisis, a spiritual awakening, a general restless feeling that there is something more meant for your life.

The main focus of this exploration is on your identity through exercises like Core Values, Personal Vision, and Best Self.

You’ll talk through those desires and dreams to discover what’s possible for you as you move forward in your life. This is the foundation to leading wholeheartedly and living intentionally.

If you find yourself asking a version of the “meaning of life” question:

  • What does this all mean?

  • What am I doing with this one life I’ve been given?

  • Does my work even matter?

Then, give yourself the time and space—the gift—of exploring your Self.
